To whom ever checks this sort of thing,

I'm wondering if I'm on list.
I'm fairly a new member back in Feb. I think.
I have not received any bulletin.

Linda, isn't this the second time you have said something about this here?

If you have not heard from Rita Gormley yet, and I expect you have, do drop
her a note for Tom, her husband, who is the AIS Membership Secretary.

If you paid AIS dues and your check has cleared you should certainly have
had several instances of contact from AIS at the national and the Regional level
 by now.

Meanwhile, see if you can run down the check, assuming that is what you
tendered. You and Tom will want to confirm that it was, in fact, made to AIS, and
that it has not gone astray.

It is probably just a simple case of something falling in a crack somewhere,
or an honest human error, or some minor misunderstanding--are you sure it
was AIS dues you paid and not some local thing?---but you do need to get to the
bottom of this so you can get what is coming to you. Aside from the
Bulletin, so far as I am aware we are still sending each new member a nice
interesting welcome packet. You certainly should have seen that within three weeks of
your dues being received

That said, stuff has been known to happen. When I was AIS Membership
Secretary it was terribly difficult to impress upon some people the critical
necessity of welcoming new members promptly and generously. People at the local
level would sit on folk's checks for weeks or months before forwarding them,
which made AIS look bad because the new member heard nothing, and their check dd
not clear. I had a couple of Iris nurseries whose prinicpals held very high
AIS office who were among the very worst offenders in this regard. I was
mortified in some cases at the delays. I wrote personal letters to the new members
trying to reassure them that contrary to appearances they were not, in fact,
being treated shabbily, but the problem was nothing other than people who
should have known better, and cared more about AIS, being chronically
trifling.

All this sort of nonsense impacts membership renewals, of course. I mean,
duh.

Cordially,
