Your E-mail really rang a bell with me. I have for several years bought some of Ghio's
new introductions, with very mixed results. They would sometimes survive, only if I amended my black gumbo soil with a lot of sand. When my '06 order came, I put all the '06 irises (4) in very large pots with the best potting soil I could find. Wow, did they grow well
and three of the four bloomed. This year, however, I just couldnt justify continuing this. My husband suggested that it might be better to buy irises that would thrive in our soil. I
think he could envision the place so crowded with very big pots that we could no longer get out the doors. I may be a complete iris nut, but my purse isn't bottomless.

Thanks Mike. I wasn't thinking too clearly, or I guess was hoping some
visitors to Keith's garden to see his seedlings might be able to help.
This has been such a wretched garden season, I think I will just order a
few to grow in pots to bring indoors again during the bad freezes, just
to have a few 'fancy' blooms to enjoy, regardless of breeding potential.
If I haven't waited too late again. It is so hot and dry, it's hard
to get enthusiastic about ordering much of anything.
Most listed have only been blooming in other gardens for a season or two.>
