Yes, I have always paid $10 per year for the IR and this year I paid $15 for the Emembership in addition to my AIS membership. I agree with Bob that there is a lot more information in the Iris Encyclopedia, namely many thousands of pictures, than there is in the IR and the Encyclopedia is free. The IR is easier to search though, so I use both depending on my needs.

Eugene; What is this obsession with the Iris register. Aside from the 2010 and 2011 registrations the Iris Encyclopedia contains more Iris descriptions than the Register. The Encyclopedia is free. By next year we expect to have all irises uploaded. The only feature totally unique to the register is names that have been reserved and not yet used. You can do any of the same searches that are done on the register on the Encyclopedia. It is a bit slower than the Register but is more complete and by next year will be obviously so. The Register has always been with a charge. The increase was $5. The alternative was to raise all memberships to $40 and provide all members with exactly the same services, which would you prefer? Personally I think having a discounted $15 membership makes a lot of sense as a trial for new members or for the new electronic generation that does not care about paper. ----- Original Message ----- Judy's explanation of emembership was accurate except that she forgot to mention that regular members can no longer access the online check list. The only way to get into the check list at present is to be an emember. So, if a person wishes to get a hard copy bulletin and have access to the online check list, he/she must enroll in both memberships. BUMMER. And the electronic copy of the AIS bulletin is far from pleasent. I tried to print the electronic bulletin and it converted to two colums of very small print somewhat like newspaper colums. The electronic bulletin is presented in very small print and if I clicked on it to make it larger. the print started jumping around. I could not copy the contents of the AIS bulletin into Word so that I could keep a paper record of the bulletin or save it in a file. They were claiming that one could print the electronic bulletin and keep it.I too have Queen'sCircle and it blooms and increases in abundence. I think it is the only Dykes Medal winner that I now have. It is one of the best irises I have ever seen. I have never heard anyone desparage Queen's Circle except that one person said his QC bloomed on a short stalk. I have had this happen to several iris which would bloom normal the next year and in years thereafter. However, I have iris from several hybridizers that live and do well, but there has been almost an equal number of iris from those same hybridizers that have not done well here and that includes several Dykes Medal winners. To me this is evidence that there is something amiss in the selection of medal winners in the AIS. In my opinion, any iris that falls apart in any AIS Region should be barred from AIS medal selection.Judy, in her iris talk entry, said that there wereseveral judges overseas. Do these offshore judges vote on the awards of the AIS? If so, when do they get access, eye contact, to enough live awards candidates to make an intelligent decision? And Mr. Pries I do not agreethat a public forum is not the place to air such things as HAPPY HANDS. If we have a member that is doing something wrong, especially board members or other officers, any forum is a proper place to out the culprit. You seem to trying to hide the bad stuff about AIS and present only the positive. The only way we can get things changed for the better is when wrong doing is exposed to enough members that the wheels are forced to correct the situation. There are manypositive things about the AIS. Let's clear out the egative things.E.Baxley --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
