I'm working on where to plant the new stuff and last years stuff (still in pots).  I have Magical liviing in a pot.  Have some space left in a bed.  Can't wait for it to cool down.

Subject: [iris] HYB: seed germination - very early

The past 3 or so years, I've been putting fresh (i.e., no drying)TB
seeds,
moistened with a drop or so of water into baggies (with <no>
burrito wrapper
or anything else) into the fridge at about 40oF as soon
as the pods are
mature.

This year, the earliest seeds went into the fridge mid-June. No
notes
on when the last ones went in, but only a couple left mid-July.

Just
found a sprouted seed from (Tea Leaves x Champagne Elegance) X
Renown. 1 out
of 154 seeds from 3 pods. Earliest I've ever seen a seed
from one of my
crosses germinate. I'm guessing this one has been in the
fridge less than 6
weeks.

I've been a bit erratic about making notes on earliest germination in

past years- found notes for three - ""early October", "end of October",

Christmas day. I've learned to expect at least 3 months for the types
of
crosses I make.

The October dates were for fresh seeds, one burrito'd one
not, the
Christmas date was burrito'd, not sure if fresh or not, my guess is
not.

Chuck Chapman has reported getting early sprouting on most? or at least

many of his crosses in 6 to 8 weeks, but after germinating thousands of

seeds in the fridge, this is by far the earliest here. Except for
Renown,
different genetic mix from most here. I continue to be hopeful
re: growth &
bloom traits that I'm seeing in Tea Leaves descendants.
