Linda,
Re: your spreadsheet question: Just about any spreadsheet or database
program will accept input (and will be able to produce output) in one
of two formats, comma separated text (CSV, in the parlance) or tab
separated text, where the comma or the tab separates each field.
Spaces don't work because there are frequently spaces within the data
in the field. Some database and spreadsheet programs, when they
output the data, also put quotes around each data field, for clarity.
Also, your "drivers" are the bits of code that "drive" peripheral
devices like printers. You need specific drivers for specific device;
each one is just a little bit different...

I haven't forgotten - I had to buy a replacement computer and haven't gotten
all it's parts working yet - to save a few bucks I didn't get it with any
software loaded, although they had to put DOS on it to make sure it worked,
so I still have a box of miscellaneous diskettes with mysterious labels on
them related to 'drivers', whatever those are, plus all my old data files and
other software to work on. I don't have any kind of data
management/spreadsheet software so will have to do this with a word processor
and sort function, but first, I have to add dates of introduction.
So....Looking to the future, anybody know if there are standard delimiters
between data fields compatible with most spreadsheet/data management software
(space, comma, tab??) used in importing text files? - not exactly an iris
question but it's for my iris info.
