The New Zealand Iris Society has a seed exchange, and you might be able to
get Iris laevigata seeds from that source...if not, the two best sources I
know are the SIGNA (Species Iris Group of North America) and BIS (British
Iris Society) Species Group Seed Exchanges. You have to be a member of these
organizations to get the lists of seeds they have available. But the seeds
are a pittance.
I have several rare I. laevigata forms but not enough to share at present.
However, Lorena Reid (Laurie's Garden, 41886 McKenzie Hwy, Springfield, OR
97478) sells several laevigata forms...but I am told she no longer ships
overseas. I ship overseas, and if you wished you could make arrangements for
her to ship plants to me to ship on to you. You can Email me direct and we
could work out the details. BUT, it is not difficult for me to ship IF you
get all the papers and approvals you need from New Zealand government...as
you probably know, the rules for importing plants into New Zealand are very,
very strict...the most stringent in the world.
Another option for you is to contact a knowledgeable person in the New
Zealand Iris Society who might know a source for I. laviegata forms in NZ.
Someone I know who would be happy to advise you on this matter is Hilmary
Ctton, Flat 29, Mason Village, Durham Drive, Havelock North, New Zealand. She
is a mainstay of the NZ Iris Society, and a very helpful person. Hope all of
this is of some help...Clarence Mahan in VA
