Any idea why the oak leaves are supposed to cure this problem? Tannins?
Acidity? Calcium? Lignin? Druidic curse?
Around here, weeds are considered crucial for keeping iris growing
vigorously. I believe Clarence mentioned something to the same effect. It
actually makes a little sense if a more diverse flora means a more diverse
soil fauna. One of our club members who has grown iris as a crop for years
was commenting about it at our last meeting. She says you have to keep the
grass out of them though. And I bet she would say the same about nutsedge.
