Rot,soil conditioner, etc.

    I can't speak to JIs because I don't grow them.  However, 
regarding the calcium, I've heard Allen Ensminger state quite 
forcefully a belief that low calcium is a big reason why so many 
people have rot problems--he was referring to TBs and medians.  He 
adds gypsum to his beds every year, which adds calcium without 
affecting the pH, said he doesn't have rot.  I have tried adding 
gypsum myself, and it didn't seem to make any difference, but I may 
not have used enough or done it enough years in a row.
