that I know of no one who has such a record of failed marriages in AIS. (And
for older single people who are looking, their are quite a few eligible
widows
actions. :) Clarence Mahan in VA

You have as slight bias, here, Clarence, it seems to me -- you met Suky over
irises and you just want the whole world to have the same experience --
nice try!!
Gotta tell you about the Canadian Iris Society sale today... Chris might
already have told the story, I haven't read all my messages.
What great fun I had!! Met Cathy Boyco inperson and Ginny Prins!! What a
doll!! I am totally filled with good feelings over this day!! I'm not even
hungry!!
The sale was in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Ontario. If anyone
is ever anywhere near there, at any time of the year -- GO!!!! a great place.
The Gov't is ending the funding for this place, and they are so well
supported by the various Societies that they will continue their work
on the strength of volunteer efforts!! At least that's one plan!!
It was hard to get past the gift shop to find the iris sale, that gift shop
has live hooks sticking out into the hallway and I had to take a peek --
they sell plants probably propogated there -- for totally great prices!!
some things I've never seen before and that I'm going to see in the spring
in MY garden!! A variegated forsythia!! and a couple of variegated ivies--
oh, my!!
The sale lasted, no kidding, 15 minutes!! I was talking to Ginny and we
went at about 8 past the hour and whoosh!! there were mighty few to look
at!! So we waited around for the auction -- THAT'S where the money people
were!! Some really great things went to some really anxious folks!
In the crowd were folks from Ottawa and a man from Edmonton, I think.
Chris said I missed an 80 year old who was one of the founders of SIGNA, and
who gave it the name, and who has been irising for 50 years (didn't ask
about his marriage)
A highlight of the auction for me was the drawing -- my 7 3/4 year old son
and Cathy's son distributed tickets for a drawing, and my boy drew the ticket
and WON!! He is totally thrilled -- planning where to put it, how to
prepare the soil -- it will go next to Alexander's Rag Time Band (or is it
Alexander's Ragtime Band?) -- Champagne Waltz!!
And I picked up a letter to the youth from Marilyn Harlow which will be
useful here.
Thanks Chris, Ginny won't get this, she's babysitting somewhere, and to
Cathy B -- GREAT DAY!! and we will see you soon!!
Oh, Ginny and I looked around the RBG to see if it would be large enuf
to accomodate an international you-know-what...
Carolyn Schaffner in Buffalo, NY, where it's getting CHILLY!!
