    I'm sorry to read that your spuria experience wasn't as nice as 
mine.  Wish I could tell you to do this or that and all will be well. 
Only thing I can think of is something Larry Harder told me:  you 
have to plant spuria deeper than TBs, SDBs, etc.  They have to be an 
inch or so below the surface, none of the rhizome showing as in the 
bearded ones.  Maybe this makes a difference, but I'm no expert, only 
a lucky amateur.
