Yesterday I received my box with the plants I ordered from Carol Warner
(Draycott Gardens) and I have to say WOW and WOW and OH BOY, and Golly, gee
whiz and ---

These were great big rhizomes that are green and healthy!! Carol says she
doesn't need to substitute because she always has sufficient stock before
she offers them. I've seen her garden and I believe her -- she has fantastic
skill in getting her things to grow and reproduce. She just loves her job
and her plants.

She sent Freckled Geisha, which I ordered because mine didn't survive. She
said it is not easy to grow -- anyone with experience with it??

And she enclosed a piece of REISYUN, a Japanese introduced by Clarence Mahan
for Shimizu about whom Clarence has warm wonderful things to say.
Reisyun is a pink and I am so excited to have it!! I saw it in Carol's garden
with Bill Smoot and Bruce H and we were all gushing over it. I can't wait
to see it bloom again. The most wonderful stuff in Currier McEwen's garden
was the pink/near reds.

I feel very satisfied today....

ADDITIONALLY!! I have to sing the praises of Dennis Stoneburner's Newcast,
the Region 4 publication. It is super de duper!! What do you want in a
regional newsletter?? Local news, photos, garden descriptions, technical
information, snippets of tips, snapshots of folks that show their character,
-- it's a great thick publication -- almost as thick as the Bulletin -- and
compares favorably with that, also. Dennis' wife produced some lilne
(line) drawings that are great, also!!

Folks who are editors of Regional newsletters should look at this publication
(Region 2, too!!) -- I feel like saying "send your $3.00 today to --
but I'll let Dennis make that invitation .... Ordinary folks should have
this publication and then volunteer to BE the regional newsletter editor with
this as a model!!

(strong ending to that hymn)
