Perhaps one cannot overwinter JIs in pots in climates like Canada and
NH...but you can do it here in Northern Virginia. Last year we had the
coldest winter since records have been being kept, and I had three JIs in
pots (and these were rare cultivars from Japan I had paid large sums for).
They came through the winter temperatures, which were as low as zero F.
just fine. And this year I certainly will have some JIs in pots, sitting on
top of the ground, through the winter. I know they will be fine next spring.
