My new Iris friends:
I subscribe to a number of lists, and this list is by far the most alive
and human that I visit. I grow many things and until recently, have had
only a few iris. I originally signed up because I wanted to learn more,
but I've been growing glads since I was a kid, and that's where my heart
has been.
There are a lot of things (on topic) on this list that don't interest
me. I don't grow siberians or Lousiana's, I'll probably never buy an
iris glass or teapot, I don't know anything about Japanese iris. But,
your warmth and enthusiasm - and your wonderful senses of humor have
kept me on this list long after I learned all I had come for. I think
there must be something special about iris and the folks who grow them.
I stay on the list because it is a very comfortable and welcoming place.
And, it's not that my life isn't busy. I have plenty of other things
pushing for my time.
So today, one of my glad beds has been converted to an iris bed -
largely because of all of you. And I look forward to making some of the
same dumb mistakes and having some of the wonderfull success that the
rest of you have had. I thank you for that.
And, for those of you who get irritated by the jokes, and off-topic
stuff, I understand your feelings, but I beg your indulgence. When I got
back from a trip there were a lot of postings from several lists I had
to plow through. This list's were fun, the others were a lot like work.
When Griff or John or Barb or Rima and others add something of
themselves to the list it brings it to life. God knows there are plenty
of deadly serious "on topic" discussions on the net. And heaven knows we
need a bit more humanity in this world. Isn't that why we grow flowers
in the first place? Thanks for hearing me out.
With my heart open,
Ross
