I just wanted to thank Ellen Gallagher for her OT-CHAT: post of 8/1/97
concerning venetian blind plant markers. Yesterday, I happened upon some
vinyl mini-blinds on the side of the road and immediately did a quick
turn-around to retrieve them.
This morning when I told my wife about them she cringed and said, "Not more
junk." I promised her that I would cut them up as soon as possible to avoid
clutter. My dilemma was knowing the optimum length to which to trim them
for plant labels. I first tried a search of the archives using the word
"label" and got 155 hits!! A search on the word "mini" turned up a more
manageable number of hits (87) with Ellen's post near the top of the list
because of it's recent date. By the way, Ellen says 5 inches for the
length of the markers. Also Nancy Silverberg recommends a grease pencil
instead of a Sharpie marker for labeling.
The whole point of this post is to affirm that OT-CHAT: posts do
occasionally have value on the list. It also demonstrates that the
archives are a useful collective of ideas and experience from the list.
Thanks again to Ellen and Nancy for their bravery in posting OT-CHAT:
messages and to Tom for making iris-L available to both the chatty and the
non-chatty irisarians of the world.
