Yeah, I just got tired of the same varieties year after year. And they
have become so overgrown that after blooming I have no idea what's what;
ANN CHOWNING and a violet I've lost the name of took over most of the
planting. I suspect there has been a lot of progress made in Louisiana
breeding in the last 12 years. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the bed was
devastated by borers this year.
As a point of interest, up to this year's borer attack, these plants gave
excellent bloom for 11 years without being divided. Each fall they were
given a mulch of 6" of chopped leaves--that's the only care they got.
It will be interesting to get your report on Louisiana survival in your
climate.
