OT-Bio My name is Marylou and I have been growing tall bearded iris in
several climates (Seattle and Minneapolis) for the last 12 years. None
however have been such a challenge as now in coastal San Diego county where
the temps range usually 70-90 deg F. in the summer to a low of + 40-60 deg
F in the winter.
My soil is very sandy and needs to have added humus and I am slowly
accompIishing this. The blooms that I have has thus far this past season
from plants which I transplanted with me from Seatlle have been sparse.
Only three blooms per stalk- the same plants would give 10 blooms in
Seattle. Additionally, the falls of the blooms do not fully fall down and
are sticking out almost horizontally - this again is on plants which were
not like this before. I would like to correspond with other southern
coastal dwellers .
