It is not, repeat NOT possible to infect your computer with a virus by
simply reading an e-mail message. In order to do that you must download a
program, which almost never happens in the course of regular e-mail and
which you must even then consciously undertake.
The "Pen Pal" virus is a well-known hoax. This message has been making the
rounds for at least two years with very few changes. It is a prank, and a
cruel one, designed to create anxiety in computer users. Thus the message
itself is the "virus."
By forwarding phony virus warnings to lists we play into the hands of the
@#$%&#$@ who started the hoax.
Remember--you cannot get a virus by reading an e-mail message!
There is a website where these things can be checked out and if I can find
the URl later, I will post it to the list.
