FRANK ADAMS has reportedly shown malvidin in its pigment makeup and
speculation in the 60s/70s was that high concentrations of malvidin without
the usual delphinidin would lead to spectrum red.
Interestingly enough, considering cultivars recently discussed, a cross of
FRANK ADAMS with VIOLET HARMONY also gave a TB with malvidin. Bernice and
her cohorts may be on the right trail -- she was going to team up with a
pigment chemist from VA Tech to do lab work on test crosses. I have not
kept up with progress, if any.
I believe Rick Ernst and his jumping genes have the best chance of
producing results.
