PELE is one of my father's (Terry Aitken). I remember that one of the
reasons he chose that name was because it was short. They used to have to
hand-label the thousands of irises they mailed out every year. They really
hated long names.

Now they have their labels computerized. Phew! So they don't worry as much
about long names. Brevity is still pretty ingrained, though.  :-)
