I guess that would have to be a bed of dark purple-black irises then! And
the white ones generally have wedding-related names, which I personally find
almost as off-putting. (I think this would have to qualify as the
after-effects of my sister's wedding almost two years ago. When family
members have been discussing little else for months on end, plus spending a
great deal of time on preparations, it is easy to get more than a little
sick of it all. Even my sister got fed up with it, and she, at least seemed
to think she was making the right choice.....Sorry, straying off topic again.)
In terms of names which haven't been used, Iris Acres in South Australia is
naming its new Pacific Coast cultivars after local place names, which I'm
certain no Iris hybridizer in America would ever have used! Here's a sample:
ALDINGA, ECHUNGA, NOARLUNGA, WILLUNGA, KANGARILLA AND YANKALILLA.
Ann (who never EVER wants to plant an Iris called Puppet Baby, no matter how
nice it may look, and even if it does rebloom.)
