David,
I. pallida "Variegata" is a sport of I. Pallida which is a bearded
species iris of Europe. Grow "Variegata" as you would any other bearded
iris. There have been and are many hybridizers crossing with
"Variegata". However Brad Kasperek in your area (Elwood) is probably
the premier hybridizer in this area. We were fortunate to introduce
"Zebra Night" for him this year. It is a variegated leaved iris with a
dark purple flower.
