Dennis..... I dunno.  Might be we can acclimate it in a 12-step program (:

I really think that the reason some of these irises don't live in the
northeast is not so much the cold as the humidity.... I think they're used to
conserving moisture... and when confronted by the ship-loads of moisture we
have here, they just can't handle it.

Not at all scientific.... but something that occurs to me.

Or.... a far more remote possibility is.... that it's the GARDENER!  (-:
