I can't dignify this with the name of "method," I just plan to put the
spurias in pots until I can clear the space to plant them in the ground.
We have long, mild falls here and short, mild winters in which the ground
sometimes never freezes, so I suspect I can get away with planting spurias
already established in pots into the ground later. That's all!
Last year's mild winter is allowing us to get our first (small) crop of
late summer figs in more than 15 years! The darned fig tree has so
outgrown its space that I got out the pruning saw yesterday, then spotted
the figs on each branch. In contrast, while we were away at Highlands NC
the deer cleaned out our Japanese pears...win some, lose some.
