Welcome to Iris Talk, along with all others who have recently joined
us. Where are you located? In some parts of the US, there is an insect
known as the Iris Borer, which enters the leaf in spring, and eats its way
down into the rhizome, making the whole thing go mushy and stink too.
The best prevention is the removal of all dead Iris material from the
bed in the fall, and again in the late winter or very early spring.
