Dear Patrick,
Delighted to learn that you are re-joining the
ranks of Louisiana Iris hybridisers again. I have already tried to
visualise what the SOUTHERNER x OUR PARRIS seedling is like. I have used
both of these Iris in my hybridising, and think that your description of the
colour as "orangy" as being perfectly easy to appreciate.
As you know, one of my major hybridising
objectives is to create a truly great orange Louisiana Iris. As every step
moves along the "orange brick road" of my hybridising hopes and dreams
I am constantly faced with the problem of how to describe the colour of each new
seedling when registering it.
Some are apricot-orange, some are gingery-orange
while others are pale apricot, tan and brandy.
In case you were not aware of the background to
the name "OUR PARRIS" my friend Craig Carroll named the seedling after
his neice, PARRIS, who is only five years old, but cute as a
button.
The name bears no reference to the capital city
of France at all. Some try to pronouce it as "Pareeee" (thinking
that it was a french-sounding version of the French capital) and others
pronounce it as "Pairiss" (with the emphasis on the A) but it is just
pronounced the same way as the French capital, but refers to a cute little
Australian lady. I am hopeful that this may assist you in thinking of an
appropriate name.
Cheers for now, Heather Pryor i*@pip.com.au
