Re: CAT - Free plants

Hi John,
Thanks for your view on this!

Since there ae so many mail order firms competing, I think giving out
freebies gives them an edge. When I first started growing African
Violets, I tried a small order from each place offering. The ones I
order from year after year send me quality items, well packaged, have a
wide selection, and are generous with the freebies. So as I get more
into growing Iris, it will probably be the same qualities that will
cause me to be a repeat customer. I have noticed that the more of a
serious grower of a plant, the less price has to do with it.

As a business owner myself, I give a discount to clients who pay me
within Net 15 and also I have given a few small enhancements to the app
I have written for them at no charge. So I give extra goodies and the
companies I write applications for love it.

Another thought. If there is no money to be made in the Nursery
business, then why are there so many and why do people do it? People
certainly would not start a business if they were not planning on making
money from it. I wonder if it is the Nursery people who say this as
they don't want more competition?!!! Any thoughts on this from anyone?
