Then, there are those irises introduced specifically as extras or
bonusus in which one begins to doubt their quality. Coming to mind are:
SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE
or
EENIE, MEENIE, MINEE, MOE
or
ONESFORALL, ONESFORFUN, ONESFORHER, ONESFORHIM, ONESFORME,
ONESFORU
You get the point. I am of the opinion inferior irises should not
be introduced just for bonuses, and with some irises sources the bonuses
are clearly inferior. However, that certainly is not the case with
Schreiners. Many of their bonus irises have gone on to win AIS Awards,
the most recent coming to mind was the AM for INDIGO PRINCESS. After a
few years of shopping around and in selecting bonuses, one will find which
sources introduce quality bonuses and which do not.
I think the best course of action is to provide bonuses as an
option on the part of the customer.
