I sent this with my computer date set back to 4/22/98 [I use a 'Beta' copy
of software I cannot afford and it expired in June.] Every now and then I
forget to set my date correctly--and mail clients that display by date put
my posts back in with the April messages. So...if you are receiving this
twice it is because I am a klutz.
I have just received a copy of Bill Shear's new work, 'The Gardener's Iris
Book' and I am pleased to declare, "Yes indeed, it is that...and more."
Bill has crafted a volume that will guide your first hesitant forays into
making a garden with iris and yet remain an oft used resource as your skill
and knowledge grow.
Until now I have been unable to recommend an iris reference that qualified
as clear, comprehensive and affordable. This book satisfies all while
charting a median course between textbook and cocktail table tome. With
this book Bill has demonstrated mastery of the art of 'made simple' while
retaining the texture, depth and complexity that make an engrossing and
entertaining read.
The recent bumper crop of iris books has been gratifying, albeit hard on
the wallet. The merits of this book are a compelling reason to add it to
your collection and the pricing makes it a reasonable gift for those
needing iris information.
Cheers,
