Jan,
In the standard listing of the fertilizer analysis the first number refers
to the nitrogen content, the second number to the phosphate content, and
the third number to the potash content. Therefore, 0-60-0 contains no
nitrogen or potash and is a high phosphate fertilizer, which is supposed to
promote bloom. Of course, such a highly concentrated form of fertilizer
must be applied judiciously. Phosphate, unlike nitrogen, does not "move"
rapidly in the soil. Therefore it must be well worked in, and not just
sprinkled on the surface, in order to reach the root zone where it can be
taken up and used by the plant.
