Hi Jan -
We must be at the opposite ends of the climate spectrum -- we got our
first frost a few days ago, so I am very busy trying to get all my iris
chores done (I have ruthlessly earmarked 1/3 of my stock to be taken out
of my cultivated bogs, and returned to the wild. It is the only way I
will be able to improve the quality of what I keep and breed). The days
are shortening quickly, the leaves are turning yellow, and the wind
patterns have turned from southerly to northerly today. I happen to like
autumn very much though, and always find it too short.
I have an iris setosa which put out a blossom yesterday. It is an
abberant plant that will never be able to set any ripe seed before the
cold kills it, but it is still nice to have one iris blooming at this
odd time of the year. I found it several years ago by a river, blooming
in September, and thought it would be very nice to have next to the
cabin to remind one of summer.
Spring is a wonderful time of year, and it is nice to "live" it through
people in different parts of the world. Glad you're enjoying it.
