I consider myself on the 'chubby' side, and sometimes squatting is
difficult, and my back hurts. There are other ways though.
1. A small folding camp seat placed strategically in your garden will
allow you to sit and garden. A bucket each side of you to divide the
weeds as Stephen suggested. In my case the seedy and perennial weeds for
the chooks, the lush green things for the compost. Allow 1/2 hour for
the first day, and gradually build up. The greatest thing (in my case)
about spending long restful sessions in the garden, idly pulling weeds
is this: there is no refrigerator or pantry there to lure me!
My husband doesn't enjoy gardening, and I don't really want him pulling
out my precious plants mistakenly. He does use the brushcutter once or
twice a year. If you do fine needlework you have two important
advantages - patience and nimble fingers.
2. Pay someone to do the weeding, and supervise them until you know they
can do it properly.
I'ts vitally important to take steps to prevent regrowth - cultivate,
and mulch.
