That idea of marking the corners with irises as "flags" is not too
far-fetched. Back in '32 when we were married, my Dad gave us a set of AAA
tour books when we started West on our wedding trip to my husband's home in
Colorado. And I remember there were directions about turning where the white
fence ended or where a dead tree was, etc -- I'll go up in the attic when it
gets cooler and see what other odd directions and landmarks were given.
