More and more standards on Western bearded varieties seem to
be swirled shut. They remind me of frozen custard as it comes out
of the machine on to a cake type cone. These standards make
hybridizing extremely difficult.

Walter, you should have seen Louisa's Song after I croseed it this year. It
was so heavily ruffled that the standards had to be shredded to gain access,
but they were so full that it did not look like one of those stiff, undersized
pyramids.
