Re: HYB: 1st Year Bloom


Mike, I have had a few bloom the same year they germinated in Idaho, but
irises don't seem to grow fast enough here in the NC mountains to do that.  I
don't know what you would call it, but it sure suggests the genetics involved
in remontancy being present.  I've had seedlings do the first fall bloom thing
and never throw a fall stalk again too.  I don't know what to make of that.

I understand that a lot of good, reliable rebloomers bloom their germination
year given superior care.  I don't think I've ever heard a term for this take
hold and get used.  "Precocious" they certainly are, but that's not a word I'd
want to use more than once......I'd like to hear Mike Sutton comment on your
question.
