Betty W.'s post about going out in the cold to plant the last of her seeds
stimulated me to go take a good look at the photos of the parents I took that
are the parents of the pathetic few seeds I have from 2003.
Finally, as snow was on its way, I went out, retrieved the excess pots I had
prepared a year ago, put a little more of the potting mix in them and planted
the seeds. After I had pressed them in, covered them with sand and poured
water over the pots to start the natural leaching my hands were so red from
icy cold I practically ran for the house, turned on the hot water and waited
for it to warm up then soaked my fingers until I could feel them again.
I haven't the foggiest where I am going to line the germinants out in the
spring if they do germinate anyway. My space is full to the brim and then
some. My conscience is at least at rest. It kept nagging me for the last
month to get these few crosses in the ground.
