OT: scanners

I have two scanners - a Hewlett Packard Photo Smart (scans slides,
negatives and prints) and a Mustek III EP sheet scanner.

I need to replace the HP as the ability to scan prints has been broken for
over a year. It is obsolete and the broken feature can not be repaired.
I'm still using the slide feature though and it is faster and more
convenient than the Mustek sheet scanner. The sheet scanner does not scan
slides.

I've always had good luck with HP products and I understand the newer
models are 'multi-purpose' scanners. I don't know if that means it will
scan larger prints or not, but when I give up and replace that scanner I
will look for the HP Photo Smart series of scanners.

>Friends -- I'm about to replace my scanner, and would appreciate your
advice. I work primarily from slides, so the scanner must scan slides.

So, if some of you are scanning slides and have a scanner that you like,
please tell me. (Also let me know of any to avoid.)Besides good quality, I
am
looking for speed. The one I now have is excruciatingly slow.

These days, of course, new slides can be put on a disk at the time of
developing, but I have many older ones that need to be copied post facto,
and
the scanner is the cheapest and most convenient way to do it.

Thanks. -- Griff
