RE: OT NAMES OF IRIS

I figured someone would have posted this by now with all the talk about names. I have not seen the new Bulletin. This might be in it.

Received this from Mike Lowe:

The AIS Board has changed the rules for naming an iris.

The PRESENT rule is:
4. Names should follow the rules established by the International Code of
Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants. The following names will not be
permitted:
....
g) Names in excess of three words, ten syllables, or thirty letters.
________________________________________________________________________
The NEW rule (effective starting in the 2005 registration year, 1 December
2004) is:
4. g) "names in excess of FOUR words or thirty letters."

The above change applies to all.

Below is a change affecting North American registrants:

The AIS Board has also raised the fee for reserving an iris name and
registration of an iris, to $10.00. The fee for transfer remains at $10.00.
The registration/reserve fee was last raised, thirteen years ago, at the
Fall Board meeting in 1991 and was in effect beginning with the 1992
registration year.

The raise to $10.00 for name reserves/registrations will go into effect for
the 2005 registration year beginning 1 December 2004. All registrations and
reserves postmarked 30 November 2004 and before will be at the old rates.
After December 1, reserves and all registrations, except those paid earlier
when reserving a name, will be charged at the new $10 rate.

Best regards,

Mike & Anne Lowe
Registrar/Recorder
