Re: AIS: REF: AIS as International Registration Authority

A few points that have been missed by the recent posts;

We already have in place 4 Recorder/Archivists in the Median Society

The idea of a single Archivist doing the thousand plus registrations is not considered workable. We are doing this a class at a time. The SDB archivists has the largest number of registrations per year and we hope to work out someway of dividing that labor. But each archivist would for the most part have to deal with around 50 or less registrations for their group.

Perhaps the Tall-bearded Iris Society will find a way to deal with their large numbers but all other groups have a workable number of registrations to deal with.

I am not advocating an official AIS photographer. But if there was such the perfect place to photograph new introductions would be at national conventions.

All the problems intrinsic to any image seem to be well known, and continually discussed. They dont discourage me from taking pictures and certainly OTHER PEOPLE understand these problems and would be foolish if they tried to use photos for more than they are capable of providing. I believe the rate of abuse or misuse would be no worse than the abuse or misuse of descriptive text. It seems a rather sad judgment to think that OTHER PEOPLE do not have the knowledge or skills to deal with the innate inaccuracies of any image or text description. Of course there are exceptions and I have seen judges do some pretty stupid things but as a whole I respect the intelligence of the population and find that most people attempt to be honest and discerning.

Also I am not advocating a mandatory photo with registration. Just that it be encouraged.
