I do not believe that is at all what I said. I prefaced my post by stating
that I liked the idea, and closed it with a preference of method for
archiving the images. In between I raised some concerns I believe to be
valid and would need to be overcome in order for this to be a useful tool.
It certainly is a worthwhile project. However, each individual prioritizes
projects based on time, funding and human resources. The iris borer affects
at least one third of North America, and has probably been the number one
factor giving irises the reputation of being difficult to grow and causing
newbies or non-irisarians to give up on them as a garden plant. Scorch is a
big problem in the South and little is known about its' cause or cure. I
also like the idea of mapping the iris genome, although the use would be
limited and I would never suggest using one cent of AIS funds to do so.
Returning to your project, I guess my goal was to point out some of the
issues with it. If you know the problems before you begin building, you can
set a standard and make adjustments to the structure. That way you end up
with form and function, not just form.

I grow/grew over 3000 varieties at one point, and from the looks of my
secondary hard drive I have tried to have a picture or three of every one of
them. I like photos. :)
