Re: Luminata genetics

This is getting really interesting. Chuck, this should be a lot of fun,
and very educational. I'll have to back away for a bit and digest it all
now. First I have to memorize which allele is which, then dig in with both
feet. Also, I have little experience with ancestries and which Iris looks
like what, so all the comments from you Neil are very interesting too. I
have little time to go through hundreds (?thousands) of records and hunt
photos, and while it would be fun, you are giving me a good head start with
your comments. After a few days, I'll probably come back with some really
stupid comments or questions, but who knows, maybe it'll make a lot more
sense by then. Chuck, it looks like you've put a great deal of thought
into this. It seems like something that breeders will be able to help you
sort out with their results, if crosses are planned out in such a way as to
verify or disprove the theoretical, and it seems like something that would
be very useful to breeders as well. I have a hunch that when I actually
get into breeding cultivars, it will be a very odd line(s) indeed, since my
tastes tend to be a bit out in left field (and often about a hundred years
behind the times).

Thanks,

Dave
