I grow my plants in rows. Actually double rows with plants staggered. But I also have flower beds with iris plated in them. Wife also begs plants from me for her flower beds and they do well there. TB, SDB, MDB IB and SIB. Most do well even if crowded and some even do better for her then they do for me in the rows. She usually picks the expensive newer varieties and she does this just by looking at them. Also some outstanding older ones such as Stepping Out and Dusky Challenger. She does have good taste, she also picked me.
I have been planting blue-eyed grass as companion plants for the arilbred. They are native to our farm, are short and beautiful and crowd out the weeds.
