CULT: seedling temps

Hello all,
I am still learning and experimenting with seedlings and germination rates, etc as many of us seem to be. I still haven't quite figured out the optimal germination conditions for my irises. But, before I get off track from my question let me state it.
I have recently started getting some germination from my 2005 crosses.
What I am wondering is if there is an "ideal temperature" for seeds that have just sprouted? Should I expose the seed with the new sprout to warmer temps and bright light right away or wait for the sprout to develop "legs" in the cooler environment a bit before exposing it to higher temps and bright lights?
These seedlings are in small peat pods. I have had success with a few before, but have lost some when exposing them to warmer and brighter conditions, possibly too quickly. Is there is an ideal, or at least better temperature and light exposure (hours per day) to keep my seedlings at? Oh, also, I had raised a few seedlings by keeping them warmer with 24 hours of pretty bright, but not too hot, of light last season. The light doesn't seem to be a "killing factor". The seedlings that didn't make it were in peat pods as well that were kept moist. Perhaps it was too much moisture that killed them. As far as moisture/watering is concerned, I kept the others that made it and grew nice and strongly as moist as the one's that died.
Okay, I'm getting into a novellette here and getting off track.
Thanks for any input. I truly appreciate the help.
