Griff and Betty,
Thanks for the encouragement. By the way, I've got
five seeds from 'Odoratissima' X 'Muskoka Sunset',
too; but none of these has decided to germinate yet.
And Betty, in regards to your posting about breeding
philosophy and freely discussing it -- I couldn't
agree more. I'm always hoping to light a little fire
in someone else, when I discuss my crosses (which are
usually not mainstream type crosses anyway). I do a
lot of diploid, species and wide crosses. If something
I've said, encourages someone else to try the same (or
a similar) cross, then I'll just have someone new to
discuss these crosses with. How could that be a bad
thing???
So, is anyone feeling curious and stubborn enough to
join me in some bearded X tectorum crosses. I'd love
to see some other new hybrids springing up, besides my
own. I'll warn you, it would be easy to get
discouraged; I've been trying these crosses for
probably five years and only have one definite hybrid
('Flying Dragon') to show for it. But, I have two
possible hybrids growing indoors right now. The more
vigorous seedling (of the two) is from white Iris
tectorum crossed with mixed pollen from a bunch of F1
diploid bearded seedlings ('Kupari' white Iris pallida
X Iris variegata).
Oops, maybe I should have started a new thread for
that one...
