Re: HYB:CULT:water and seedlings, dew

I have not tried to grow CONCOCTION - pedigree would lead me to think it wouldn't do very well for me, but if she does well for you, I will definitely give it a try.

For foliar health comparisons, I look at IMMORTALITY, HARVEST OF MEMORIES etc - they stay the healthiest no matter how much heat and wet foliage, alternating deep freeze and 80oF weeks. So the seedlings that I said in earlier post look strongest are those that are as healthy looking as IMMORTALITY, plus growing well.

The first year I was retired, I think I attempted over 600 crosses, had very few pods. The next year, realized dew might be a problem with getting good pollen, made many fewer crosses, ripened many more pods. Better last year (~60 pods). This year, successful with most crosses attempted, except for a few stubborn ones that I tried repeatedly with no luck. Too many pods!! Fortunately, not all of them matured. <g>

<The losses are not overall the beds, they are specific to some crosses, so we're better off without them anyway.

If they die, let it be.>

Amen.
