Amen to that Loic! And thanks for reminding me Robin.
That's a perfect example of how you never know what
you're going to get. I had planned it all out very
carefully to best of my "genetics knowledge", which
isn't too shabby, if I do say so myself. Anyway, I've
gotten everything but what I've expected. CLOWN PANTS,
from Iris variegata X mellita, I expected not to
rebloom, since neither species reblooms for me. I had
hoped that second generation offspring might have that
potential though. CLOWN PANTS does repeat its bloom
about half of the years here, but it is in a different
way than typical rebloom. It sends up a few stalks,
just a few weeks after the main flush is through.
Crossing Iris cengialtii (which doesn't rebloom for
me) with CLOWN PANTS has given me a totally different
kind of rebloom. None of these seedlings sends up
additional stalks right after the main flush; but
several have just this year done a typical-style fall
rebloom. Once again, totally NOT what I expected. On
another note, KEIRITH (which reblooms somewhere)
crossed with CLOWN PANTS has given not one single
rebloomer of any sort. Go figure!!

So, I wouldn't recommend worrying too much about being
able to predict what you'll get. Just keep having fun!
