HYB: germination experiment (noon report <g>)


Tried something a little different this year - put one pod of shelled but undried (i.e., fresh), unsoaked seeds in a burrito, then put the baggie into a chiller and left it there. It took 5 months (!!) at 40 to 50oC, but seeds finally started to germinate. <No> soaking, either before or after burrito'ing. (IMMORTALITY x CELEBRATION SONG) x bee

This has me rethinking the 3 months of burrito chilling I've been doing, wondering if two cycles of chilling are what's giving me higher germination rates or if they are just getting longer total chilling.

If these seeds had been planted outdoors in late November (suggested time to plant outdoors), they wouldn't get 5 months of chilling before spring warmth in this climate.

Two of the seed pots brought in after a few seeds germinated in early November are now sending up a few more sprouts, after some pretty cool temps on the sunporch (40s at night).

Just some observations...no controls, no conclusions...
