Christian -- If by "gooey remains of the pod", you are thinking of a rotted pod, it's worth remembering that many or most seeds from a rotting pod can be salvaged simply by washing them in plain water and letting them dry as you would fully-ripened seeds. It's unpleasant to do, but worth t. -- Griff

Linda, Two questions-just for my own clarification. Are your burritos damp? I presume damp when I see the word burrito. If they are damp can you really say they are not getting soaked? I know it's just semantics but wet is wet isn't it?Are you changing the paper towel at all? I remember you mentioning the gooey remains of the pod, which I would have felt compelled to dispose of.For what it's worth I may be able to contribute to the data set on longer total chilling here in a few weeks. My seeds are all on a second six week cold cycle right now.Christian ky Linda Mann <lmann@lock-net.com> wrote: Tried something a little different this year - put one pod of shelled but undried (i.e., fresh), unsoaked seeds in a burrito, then put the baggie into a chiller and left it there. It took 5 months (!!) at 40 to 50oC, but seeds finally started to germinate. soaking, either before or after burrito'ing. (IMMORTALITY x CELEBRATION SONG) x bee This has me rethinking the 3 months of burrito chilling I've been doing, wondering if two cycles of chilling are what's giving me higher germination rates or if they are just getting longer total chilling. If these seeds had been planted outdoors in late November (suggested time to plant outdoors), they wouldn't get 5 months of chilling before spring warmth in this climate. Two of the seed pots brought in after a few seeds germinated in early November are now sending up a few more sprouts, after some pretty cool temps on the sunporch (40s at night).
