Re: Seeds Germinating

I would have to agree that this is the best way and is what I do (and have explianed my method in a previous post) and get more plants than I have room for. But isn't that the goal... to have lots to choose from?

You could decide to plant only the most vigorous percentage of a cross or if not enough room then don't plant the least vigorous crosses and save room for the vigorous or more important ones.

Irealize that many of you are trying to find better ways of germianting your seeds. However, from reading these posts it would seem to me that a lot of effort is being made toward the same goal and still worry about seeds being frozen. with the " normal vernalization method (in the refridgerator) germinations can be timed and come up at an appropriate time for your zone without the worry of being frozen dead or dead from some other reason..

The difference in the seedlings might genetic between the ones that readily germinate from fresh seed in a burrito and the ones that require vernalization once dried...characteristics which have been discussed before in this forum. However, if your goal is simply obtain more germinations and your concern is seedlings freezing, then I don't understand why one would persue the burrito method.

Multiple pods of the same cross (or large lots of the same cross) could be germinated using both methods. That way you would be guaranteed a good pool of seedlings. You could also see how they germinate differently and how the seedlings are different. (This may have been discussed before).
