Along this path . . . 
 
As we know this summer was very hot and stressful.  One of my irises .  . . 
LOVE LINES dropped almost all of its fans.  I'd never seen it like it  was this 
year.  Made it hard to ship.  I understand this is a defense  mechanism 
against the heat etc.  The really big rhizomes were almost  bare.  Some I replanted 
had no fans to mark their existence until after the  fall rains.  
 
ENTICE (Ghio 2004) did the same.
