Mike: I do not know where you see that there is any limit on bloom time for MDBs. Yes your seedling is introduceable. Each class has only a small number of parameters that are sacrosanct. Bloom time is only traditionally important in IBs and they don't even conform anymore. The Species cross class is in many ways a miscellany and any Iris that fits terribly into all other classes can be put there, but in your case MDB is more rational. Judges that can not cope with variability are not what I would want in a judge, otherwise you might as well have different colored cookoe cutters.

According to The Judges Handbook it does not qualify as a SDB because the 
bloom is too small and stalk is too short. MDB will not work because bloom 
is to late. Thus the seedling is not introducible. A small iris that could 
bloom south of the MOB will not be this seedling.

Gruff does 05M1 bloom with the Mobs

Judges Handbook:
Definition: Bearded iris up to 25 cm (10 inches) in height. Stems are 
usually unbranched; Flowers are 4 to 7.5 cm (1.6 to 3 inches) wide; earliest 
blooming of all bearded  iris and with pure I. pumila usually the first to 
bloom.
